JAMES M DORSEY LECTURE: ‘THE ARAB SPRING AND ITS IMPLICATIONS ON SOUTHEAST ASIA’

BOLKIAH GARRISON, Thursday 1 December 2011 - The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS) conducted a lecture this morning at the Officers’ Mess in Bolkiah Garrison. The lecture, entitled ‘The Arab Spring and its Implications on Southeast Asia’, was presented by Mr. James Dorsey, a Senior Research Fellow at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Mr. Dorsey discussed the developments of the Arab Spring and how it impacted Southeast Asia, especially with regards to governance, Islam and energy resources. The lecture was attended by the Ministry of Defence and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) officers as well as defence attachés and representatives from various government agencies and tertiary institutions. The next lecture is expected to be held in January 2012.
